According to the latest data released by the National Energy Administration, by 2023, China's total installed renewable energy capacity reached 1.45 billion kW, accounting for over 50% of the country's total power generation capacity—historically surpassing thermal power capacity. As of December 31, 2023, renewable energy generated 3 trillion kWh of electricity within the year, approximately one-third of the nation's total electricity consumption; wind and solar photovoltaic power generation exceeded the annual residential electricity consumption and accounted for over 15% of total social electricity use. Against this backdrop, how to promote the rapid development of green clean energy and drive a shift in society's energy consumption patterns toward greener models has become a focus of attention.

Notably, after participating in multiple "green super artery" projects, New Far East Cablehas once again won the bid for a UHV transmission channel withover 50% new energy electricity—theHami-Chongqing ±800 kV UHV DC Transmission Line New Construction Project (Gansu Section). This project is one of the major projects outlined in the National 14th Five-Year Development Plan, and is an important component of the "Power Transmission from Xinjiang to Chongqing" project. It is of great significance for promoting the rapid development of wind and solar power and other clean energy in western China and improving energy efficiency.

The Hami-to-Chongqing UHV DC power transmission project is one of China’s first batch of large-scale wind and PV base transmission projects from "deserts, Gobi and wastelands".The project starts in Hami City, Xinjiang, and ends in Yubei District, Chongqing. The transmission line passes through five provinces (regions and municipalities): Xinjiang, Gansu, Shaanxi, Sichuan, and Chongqing, with a total length of 2,290 km and a transmission capacity of 8 million kW.After completion,it will deliver more than 36 billion kWh of electricity annually from Xinjiang to Chongqing, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 16 million tons. Xinjiang will then have three UHV DC transmission channels—Hami to Zhengzhou, Zhundong to South Anhui, and Hami to Chongqing—continuously supplying power to central, eastern, and southwestern China. This will effectively increase Chongqing's share of green power consumption, optimize the energy supply structure, and enhance the grid's power supply security.
