The Shenquan II Offshore Wind Power Project
The much-anticipated Shenhua No. 2 offshore wind power project in Guangdong Province has completed the pile foundation sinking operation for its heaviest single pile. Far East Cable Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Far East Smart Energy Co., Ltd. (short name: Far East Shares, stock code: 600869), will provide it with 36/66kV high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cables required for 11-megawatt offshore wind turbines, contributing to the construction of a ten-million-kilowatt-level offshore wind power base in eastern Guangdong and offering Far East's wisdom to China's large-scale offshore wind turbine installations.
Recently, information about the "heaviest single pile nationwide" and the "sea stabilizing needle" of wind power has gone viral on the internet. This refers to the 10th pile foundation from the 350MW Shenhua No. 2 Offshore Wind Power Project (hereinafter referred to as the "Shenhua No. 2 Project") in Jieyang City, Guangdong Province, which is currently the largest and heaviest single pile in China.
As the first approved offshore wind power project in eastern Guangdong during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the Shenhua No. 2 Project is one of China's first batch of offshore wind power projects achieving grid parity. It is also the largest offshore wind power project in Guangdong in terms of unit capacity, planning to install 16 units of 8MW and 34 units of 11MW wind turbines. Among them, all 34 units of 11MW high-power wind turbines will use 36/66kV ultra-large offshore wind power high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cables produced by Far East Cable.
The massive blades impose extremely high demands on tower strength and pitch system drive mechanisms. Meanwhile, higher power output means greater pressure on power transmission. Far East Cable's ultra-large high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cable, developed over three years, not only helps solve the problems of torsional resistance and high voltage endurance in large-power offshore wind turbines but also extends service life under harsh conditions through the company's ultra-purification continuous production technology for insulation materials, further improving product quality while reducing process losses.
The 36/66kV ultra-large high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cable, from drafting, design, testing, pilot production, manufacturing, supporting, and laying, has been granted multiple related invention patents, leading in this field, meeting the stringent requirements of turbine operation. The successful application of this product in large-power offshore wind turbines marks Far East Cable's strong technical advantage in offshore wind power matching components and lays a solid foundation for comprehensive layout in marine cables.
Towards the Sea, Advancing into Deep Blue
China's coastline exceeds 18,000 kilometers, with abundant offshore resources. Moreover, it is close to the southeast coastal electricity load area, facilitating energy consumption. Offshore wind power has become an important strategic development route for China's energy transition during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period.
To better adapt to market and customer needs, given the complex operating environment, high voltage level, and frequent torsional characteristics of high-voltage torsion-resistant cables used in offshore wind power, Far East Cable has dedicated itself to research and development.
In terms of design, using 66kV high-performance EPDM insulation material and customized structural design to effectively reduce insulation thickness and cable weight;
In terms of performance, superior mechanical and electrical properties;
After being subjected to -40℃, ±1080° 2000 times of twisting, partial discharge at 54kV does not exceed 5Pc, withstands 90 kV/30min power frequency voltage without breakdown;
After being subjected to room temperature, ±1080° 10000 times of twisting, partial discharge at 54kV does not exceed 5Pc, withstands 90 kV/30min power frequency voltage without breakdown;
In terms of certification, successfully passed tests by third-party authoritative institutions, filling the domestic gap in high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cable technology for large offshore wind turbines.
Notably, the TICW22-2022 Technical Specification for 66kV (Um=72.5kV) Wind Power Torsion-Resistant Flexible Cable, in which Far East Cable participated in formulating, has been officially released, playing a positive role in cable selection and safe operation of large-power offshore wind turbines, and demonstrating Far East Cable's leading position in 66kV high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cable R&D.
Through thirty-seven years of trials and tribulations, innovation never stops. As a global leader in the wire and cable industry, Far East Cable will continue to promote China's wind power industry towards "deep blue" with core independent intellectual property rights. Currently, Far East Cable is developing 110kV high-voltage torsion-resistant cables, expected to complete testing by the end of 2022, making it the highest voltage level offshore wind power torsion-resistant flexible cable in the world, further consolidating its leading position in the wind power cable industry.
Relying on strong R&D and manufacturing capabilities, Far East Cable is one of China's largest wind power cable suppliers, collaborating and supplying products to foreign wind turbine manufacturers such as VESTAS, GE Wind Energy, Siemens Gamesa, and domestic companies like Goldwind Science & Technology, Envision Energy, Guangdong Mingyang, Shanghai Electric, Yunda Wind Power, etc. Related products have been applied in multiple countries/regions including China, Chile, Spain, South Korea, the United States, India, providing strong guarantees for wind turbine units and winning unanimous praise from customers.
Display of cooperative customers (partial)
In the future, China's offshore wind power construction will move towards far-sea, deep-sea, and large-power wind turbines. Far East Cable will continuously increase R&D efforts and deploy marine cable R&D and laying technology development, further promoting the development of the offshore wind power industry chain, boosting China's energy reform and transformation, and helping achieve the "30·60" dual carbon goals.
